THE FAMILY CENTRE

The Family Centre is a leading community agency based in New Zealand. It is made up of a three tikanga (cultural) organisational structure of Maori, Pacific Island and Pakeha (European) sections. The key areas of our work are social policy research, family therapy services, community development, education and teaching based upon all three areas.

KEY ASSETS

Providing quality foster care in a family setting.

The Evidence Base

This review by Professor Peter Stratton (2011) explains why family and systemic therapy is very different from other therapies which most commonly strive to bring about change within individuals.

The research review concludes that systemic family and couples therapies are effective, acceptable to clients, and cost effective for a sufficient range of conditions to give confidence that the wide application in current practice is justified and could usefully be extended.
